Bernard A. Katz

Bernard A. Katz, CPA, CIRA, CFE, CFF has over 40 years of practical experience in forensic accounting, litigation support, corporate restructuring services, bankruptcy and mergers and acquisitions, financial advisory services, audit and GAAP compliance for private and public companies, and fiduciary services. As a Senior Partner in the national accounting firm of CohnReznick LLP (formerly, J.H. Cohn LLP), he provided specialized financial advisory services relating to profit enhancement and financial restructuring and conducted investigations for companies and their C-suite executives and Boards of Directors. His industry-specific experience included manufacturing, distribution, healthcare, telecommunications, real estate, and retail.

Bernie has served as an expert witness in bankruptcy, valuation, audit, and GAAP issues in federal and state courts and was a court-appointed mediator for the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey.

Bernie has conducted special investigations, including fraud and accounting (audit) examinations for large companies and institutions such as Worldcom, Enron, and the University of Medicine and Dentistry, uncovering or addressing allegations of financial crimes and civil malfeasance.

Throughout his career, Bernie has served as Litigation Trustee, Liquidating Trustee, Plan Administrator, and Wind-Up Officer in dozens of Chapter 11 matters. Currently, he serves as the Liquidating Trustee and/or Plan Administrator in several pharmaceutical and healthcare matters. Since the inception of BAK Advisors Inc., Bernie has been asked to lend his independent financial expertise to the Boards of Directors of companies that are in transition. Within the last several years, Bernie has or is currently serving as the Independent Board Member of Modell’s, Hollister Construction, George Washington Bridge Bus Station Development, DeVault Foods, Bett-A-Way Holdings, Princeton Alternative Investment Funds, US Fitness, Hunterdon Radiology Associates, Edgard Construction Materials, Sage International, L&L Wings Inc., American Furniture Rentals, Losurdo Foods, Inc., National Realty Investment Advisors, LLC, Urban Commons 2, West LLC, and HOP Energy, Inc.
